What a contagion model found in US mass-shooting data

World covers reporting from beyond the region, selected for one reason: it explains a mechanism that travels. A contagion model applied to shootings, a micronation declared in a desert, an architect building around a tree. Each is a story about how a system behaves under an unusual input.
The desk does not attempt wire coverage. There is no value in a second-hand summary of an agency report, and a site that produced one would be adding latency rather than information. What appears here is either reported against primary material or is an explanation of something a reader has already seen elsewhere without understanding it.
